There are more myths concerning acne and its causes than any other health issue we face today. The problem is that acne impacts a wide range of the population without a single obvious cause. Unfortunately, many of the rumored solutions only make the problem worse. Continue reading to learn a few of the mythical cures for acne you should avoid.

One of most well known acne misconceptions is that acne is a result of uncleanliness. Making the assumption that obsessive washing and scrubbing can help eliminate acne will cause more harm in the end. In addition to this being the wrong solution, it can cause plenty of damage to your skin. Although most people would not understand why continuing to wash your face over and over again is not a good thing, this type of action will not do anything to make your acne better. By taking away too much of your skin’s oil will just make the oil produce even more on down the line. This can cause more pimples. You do not want to do anything that will bother your acne. So you should wash it gently, using a soap-free cleanser. When you try to cleanse your face too often, this will only irritate your acne. Many of the views about acne are only myths, especially two viewpoints that are very extreme. One of these extreme views is that your acne can be cured instantly by taking the right miracle product. Don’t buy into all of the hype you find with products that will miraculously heal you, because in the majority of cases, their product doesn’t work as well as they say it does. Being told that you have to live with your acne, and nothing can be done, can be just as destructive. Being untreatable and incurable are not the same thing, because there are many treatments that help acne. There are no guarantees with your health, just because a sickness or disease seems to be cured, it can come back. But you definitely can control acne and speed up the healing process. You might have to try several different methods of treatment, but your acne can be managed, even though patience will be needed. Getting better when treating acne, as long as you don’t quit, will happen, but not instantly.

One belief about acne that has no basis in reality is that sex causes acne. The only basis for this myth is that teenagers begin producing hormones called androgens around the time of puberty. Androgens are involved in the development of sex drive among other things. In some cases these hormonal changes contribute to the formation of acne.

The act of having sex has no role whatsoever when it comes to acne. Acne is the result of these rampaging hormones and it can happen to adults and teens. Sexual activity, to this day, has never been definitively linked to acne.

It’s hard enough to find the right treatment for acne with all the facts in place. It’s even harder when you’re wading through all kinds of mythical cures in your process of elimination. Hopefully, you’ll be able to avoid a few of the fictitious acne cures after reading this. The truth about acne is out there but it’s easier to simply get it from your doctor.

If your acne is causing significant scarring or psychological distress, it is best to consult a physician or physician assistant salary to treat and manage your condition.
